Artist Statement
I was born in Italy, spent my next six years in China, and then went back to Italy for middle and high school. I am the product of two quite different countries and cultures, both wonderful but not at all alike. Now that I’m in America, I feel the force of another culture in my life and for me that’s great. The more I experience, the more open-minded and alive to the world I have become. I can find inspiration in almost any place I live. This has helped me create art that is about combining dissimilar object, elements, and colors. In a sense, I am the combination of all sorts of dissimilarities and my art is a reflection of that experience.
The best, most precious compliment of my work is not in words or sentences, or anything that can be spoken, but in how the viewer can’t quite place my work. What is it? What’s the story? What’s going on? Why the clashing elements. How do these all work together. I feel that the answer is in me and I have taken that answer and placed it in my art.
